Carlos Pena’s problems in Mexico have been well documented, but he himself has slammed its coverage.
The Mexican midfielder will return to Rangers imminently, but cannot play for the club until January. This comes after a dreadful loan spell in the Liga MX, with the midfielder making just five appearances for the strugglers in the league. Only two of those were starts.
This follows what was a similarly disastrous spell at Cruz Azul last season. Pena was struggling with alcohol related problems last term, and checked himself into rehab to beat his demons.

Now, however, as he gets set to return to Ibrox once more, Pena has slammed the coverage of his Mexican struggles. Sending a video to his Twitter followers, Pena said the following:
“This video is to thank Necaxa for all the support that they’ve given me, all the fans, the President, Mario, Martin Salcedo, to all the players and every employee in this great institution.
“A lot of things that some journalists are saying are completely fake. I left the club on very good terms and I’m very happy and very grateful with this institution and the fans.
“For now, we’re coming back to Rangers. We’ll see in a few days what happens.”
A happy departure?
Pena didn’t go into too much detail about what it is he believes journalists are lying about.
He has, however, claimed that he left Necaxa on good terms. Reports in Mexico claimed that the midfielder left due to poor performances. They also say that Necaxa are angry with him for these displays, and that’s why the loan deal has ended prematurely.
You have to imagine there is an element of truth in these reports. The fact is that if this loan deal went smoothly, Pena wouldn’t be returning. He was scheduled to come back in January anyway, but the early departure is bemusing.
The message sent by Pena was in Spanish, but we’ll post the video for you to have a look at below regardless.
Steven Gerrard now has a big decision to make on the high-earner. With Pena on over £20k-per-week, Rangers have to find out a way to get the most value from him.
