Eros Grezda’s starting debut left a lot to be desired as he continues to get himself up to full fitness.
The Albanian international made his first start in the 2-0 success over St Mirren yesterday. His name on the team-sheet was a huge boost to Gers fans who would’ve been delighted to finally see their new man get game-time.
Unfortunately, if we’re all being truthful, Grezda just didn’t do enough to warrant a second start next weekend. The little winger was always looking to make something happen, but his effect was minimal. He did rattle the post in the second half before going off however, but that was about it.

He was then replaced by the always energetic Daniel Candeias. Grezda could be forgiven for feeling a little downhearted when he saw it was his replacement that fired the opening goal into the top corner.
Whether Candeias meant it or not, it doesn’t matter. The fact is that his time on the part was a lot more productive than Grezda’s. After his goal and all-round general impact, Candeias would’ve likely played against Motherwell next weekend.
A ridiculous decision
His sending off for what looked like a clear nothing incident infuriated many. Steven Gerrard and the Rangers supporters were rightly angered by the ridiculous decision. With it being a second yellow card, the Gers can’t therefore appeal the decision.
Yet, Grezda could again be forgiven for feeling slightly relieved. He should get another chance down the right flank once more when Rangers host the Steelmen next Sunday.
He will view it as a chance to make things right after a less than convincing first start for the club. Rangers have invested plenty in Grezda, and supporters are still waiting for him to really grab his opportunity.

Candeias stole the show with his Paisley performance, and cemented his place as Rangers’ first-choice right-winger. Grezda now finally has the chance to build on his recent game-time with another start on Sunday.
Despite that, of course, Candeias is highly likely to start in Moscow on Thursday night. Rangers can’t afford any disastrous slip-ups in that one, and Gerrard’s strongest team will have the Portuguese in there.
So far, however, Grezda has yet to score or nab an assist. Gerrard is likely to give him another chance next Sunday. With Candeias strongly back in the good books with fans once more, Grezda really needs to take it.
