Can Rangers help Fashion Sakala get to the next level?

Rangers striker Fashion Sakala has been no stranger to adversity in his life, with the Ibrox doubters just another hurdle for this positive Zambian to overcome.

The 26-year-old attacker is a source of constant frustration; his sometimes wonderfully direct running and powerful finishing juxtaposed with a lack of concentration that sees the ball left standing and big chances missed.

While the forward has 20 goal involvements this season, including 12 goals, it is not so much the ability of Fashion Sakala that is under the microscope.

It’s more the reliability, consistency and maturity on the pitch which is so often lacking from the Zambian international’s game.

But as we prepare to go into a new era with Michael Beale, can the Ibrox side’s central African attacker polish his game and go to an explosive new level under the Rangers boss?

We certainly hope so.

Fashion Sakala has all the attributes to be top Rangers star

If Rangers can more consistently harness the direct and explosive running of Sakala, with his often tight close control and powerful finishing, they will have a real weapon in their arsenal.

If you look at the forward’s highlight reel, you will see some genuine examples of his technical ability combined with his explosive athleticism which make him a genuine handful for defenders.

But when you look at the big moments for Sakala in a Rangers jersey, there is probably an equal amount of opportunities missed.

It’s taking that step up in his confidence, decision-making and concentration that will define the remainder of Sakala’s footballing career and not just the one at Rangers.

There is a reason why clubs from the top five leagues, including the Premier League, were interested in Sakala as his contract ticked down with KV Oostende in 2021.

Thoroughly likeable, now is the time for Sakala to add a ruthless professionalism to his style on the park and become a versatile, potent and direct attacker who can fire the club to trophies before banking Rangers a pretty penny.

Ahead of next season, the forward is definitely someone Rangers should keep hold of, and some fans might do well to back the attacker who will only get better with experience.
