Can Rangers’ Borna Barisic really turn the corner in Scotland?

In stuffy away days in Scotland, you often need a moment of quality to take three points – step forward Borna Barisic.

The Croatian full-back hasn’t had it easy since joining Rangers from NK Osijek last summer, but his stunning free-kick winner was that flash of brilliance that gave us a vital three points last weekend.

Going into this season, it looks like he’ll be our only natural left-back in the squad. Can that goal really help him turn a corner once and for all?

You can see by the wing-back’s celebration just how much it meant to Borna to score that goal – Scotland has been an unforgiving place for him at times.

The full-back has undoubted quality – as we’ve seen in flashes with his delivery – but he’s often struggled with the pace, passion and commitment of the game here.

There are few questions over the left-back’s ability, but plenty over his bravery and commitment to the cause.

If Barisic can get over that confidence hump and begin to impose himself at left-back for Rangers, he could be a prime asset to the club.

Steven Gerrard spoke glowingly in the week since the game about the player’s application but the Gers boss’ team selections suggest Barisic is yet to convince Gerrard he’s over that hump just yet.

But maybe, just maybe, that flash of brilliance in Paisley can be the catalyst he needs to make an impact in Glasgow.
