With speculation continuing to rumble on over the future of Dominic Solanke, will the Liverpool success at Ibrox help sway his mind?
A report from TalkSPORT yesterday stated that no deal was going to happen between Liverpool and Rangers for the English youngster. But that hasn’t stopped talk of a potential move.
If the Reds are keen to offload him on a loan deal, interest will be high. A host of English Premier League clubs were interested in Solanke in the summer – it would likely be the same this time around. To sum up, Rangers would have their work cut out trying to persuade him to make the move north in January.
Yet, with the success of both Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria at Rangers this season, it’s proving to be a fruitful journey from Merseyside to Glasgow for these young prospects.
Ejaria waded into the Solanke debate last night, and claimed it would be massive for the club if they pulled the deal off.
“If Dom was to join Rangers in January he would be a very good addition to the squad. It would increase the strength in depth of the squad and he would be a very good addition.
“Dom is a very good player and I’ve known him for a very long time. If I was to speak to him about it, I’d only have good things to say about Rangers.
“It’s a very good club and I’ve enjoyed my time here so far. He’s another goalscorer. He scores a lot of goals.”
Won’t go short of game-time
Solanke should also bear in mind that he wouldn’t go short of game-time at Ibrox. The club have Alfredo Morelos in fine form as their main front-man, but Solanke would have a spot in the team no bother given his pedigree.
It would then be down to him to keep his place in the side and prove that the hype is worth it. Yet, this would all only be the case if the Englishman moved to Rangers in January.
He has, in the past, praised manager Steven Gerrard and wished him well up in Scotland. The forward is certainly in awe of the Gers gaffer, and that’s another factor that could play into Rangers’ favour.
But it’s the development of both Kent and Ejaria that should have Solanke seriously considering a move up here. Kent in particular was becoming the team’s main creative spark with his displays down the left before his injury.
In total, the pair have five goals and three assists between them as we head into December. Whilst those stats aren’t overwhelming, however, they both add so much of a spark to Rangers on the ball. The pair are now growing into first-team life at a massive club.
Ibrox could be the perfect grooming ground for Solanke to hone his craft. He needs to start impressing Jurgen Klopp and make the German tactician take notice of him.
Therefore, he should take one glance at the two Liverpool loan stars already at the club and look to do something similar.
