Alfredo Morelos’ form has been simply sensational this season, so can he set himself a new record?
At just 21-years of age, the Colombian has been getting better and better throughout his career. Former Rangers coach Jonatan Johansson touched on what made Morelos come to Ibrox, and the Finn played a key role in bringing him to Glasgow in the first place.
Rangers supporters have plenty to thank Johansson for in that regard. Morelos is on fire this season, and has already slammed home 14 goals in just 25 appearances for the Gers.
His form this season has been so impressive that he’s been called up to the Colombia squad for the first time. He took part in their 2-1 win over Venezuela back in September.
Yet, compare his stats to the Morelos who also impressed last season, and it shows his improvement. Overall last term, Morelos smashed home 18 goals in 43 appearances for Rangers. He did end the season as top scorer, but had his inconsistent periods also, including a barren run of 10 matches without a goal.
Incredible improvement in stats
This term, he’s just four strikes away from matching that tally and it’s not even Christmas. His form last season was the best he’s managed throughout his career for a single campaign. It’s fair to say that he’s well on his way to overtaking that this year.
It wasn’t always this easy for the Colombian at Ibrox. He was often criticised for being too greedy last season. He would frequently take unnecessary strops when things weren’t going his way also.
Now, he looks a totally different player under the new Rangers manager. The stats would actually point to him being nearly twice the player considering his goal-tally at this stage.
His recent form backs this up also. The Colombian has netted nine goals in his last 11 matches. He’s managed to bag in eight of them, showing he isn’t having too many off-days.
He’ll have his eyes on shooting well past his personal goal-record. At the rate he’s going, Morelos looks like he’ll be doing that on plenty more occasions in future years too.
