Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has said that officials got the call “right” when it came to the controversial decision to call off the match with Livingston yesterday.

The Ibrox gaffer was speaking after guiding his side to a 1-0 win over the Lions in a fixture which was rescheduled for 24 hours after the original time of 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

But whilst the Gers manager admitted it wasn’t an ideal situation amid a hectic fixture schedule, Gerrard thinks it was necessary such were the conditions and the state of the pitch.

“It wasn’t an ideal situation for the players or the fans, the game getting moved 24 hours,” said Gerrard [RangersTV].

“We had the option to play it on Monday night which obviously wasn’t ideal for Thursday so Sunday it was.

“Today was all about getting the win, you see the conditions, the wind, the rain, you see the pitch.

“It just delayed everything really.

“Yesterday we’re waiting around for the right call, I think the call was right to cancel the game.

“But then we need to head to the training ground to do an extra session when the boys are basically in game mode.

“That’s not ideal so, look, we’ve handled it really, really well. I’m really pleased with the boys’ professionalism and attitude.”

Rangers fans were left frustrated after the effects of Storm Dennis meant the match was forced to be rescheduled for the next day.

Livingston boss Gary Holt also expressed his frustration with the decision [Daily Record] ahead of the crunch match at Ibrox.

After Celtic had beaten Aberdeen 2-1 earlier in the day, it ramped up the pressure on Rangers to deliver against Livingston and the Ibrox club will be glad to have gotten through the sticky tie with three points.
