A Glasgow business owner has been forced to respond after some Rangers and Celtic fans fell for a fake tweet regarding a Covid-19 outbreak at Ibrox.

A cheeky Celtic supporter created a hoax tweet, changing his name to sports journalist Anthony Joseph which claimed the Gers currently had several players self-isolating.

The Tweet also claimed that Rangers players had breached Covid-19 protocols by visiting popular peri-peri chicken restaurant Black Rooster.

The company’s owner – Mick Kennedy – was forced to take to Twitter to deny the allegations after receiving messages from excited fans wanting to know if it was true.

“Someone has created a fake account of well-known sport journalist and claimed Rangers players have tested positive for Covid,” said Kennedy via Twitter.

“They also state the players were in Black Rooster together. I have now had several messages asking if this is true, I can confirm it’s false.”

The entire thing – between gullible Celtic fans beaming with excitement over the Tweet and Kennedy’s response – has had Gers fans in stitches.

The Ibrox supporters took to Twitter to respond to Kennedy as he sought to clear up the suggestion the Rangers first-term breached Covid protocols to eat in one of his restaurants:

We can confirm that these Covid-19 claims are categorically not the case but if anything, Black Rooster has got some publicity out of it and the owner took it in the jest it was intended.

Perhaps this might take the publicity off of Celtic, who were in hot water this week when their trip to Dubai was criticised by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
