The Daily Mail reports that the Bundesliga has been cleared to return on 15 May meaning Rangers’ Europa League rivals Bayer Leverkusen will soon be back in action.
Similarly to the majority of leagues across Europe, the German top-flight was halted in mid-March amid the global health crisis, with no fixtures taking place in over a month and a half.
However, Germany has more effectively slowed the spread of the virus than most other nations and as a result, has already begun the easing of lockdown measures.
It’s claimed that Chancellor, Angela Merkel, will announce a further relaxation of restrictions on Wednesday and that the Bundesliga has been cleared to return in ten days time.
The news means that Rangers’ Europa League rivals, Bayer Leverkusen, are within sight of a return to the pitch.
All matches will initially be played behind closed doors and players may even be required to wear face masks, but it looks as though the remaining nine rounds of fixtures will be played.
Bayern Munich are currently four points clear at the top of the table, with Leverkusen eight points back in fifth.
The first leg of the Last 16 clash between the Gers and Peter Bosz’s side at Ibrox on 12 March was one of the last fixtures to take place in the UK before the suspension of sport, and it’s as yet unknown whether or not the tie will be played to completion.
