Former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has sent a message to Jack Butland after his Ibrox arrival was confirmed on Tuesday.

Rangers made their third signing of the summer transfer window on Tuesday as goalkeeper Butland signed on the dotted line.

Butland joins playmaker Kieran Dowell and right back Dujon Sterling at Ibrox with Michael Beale moving early for new faces.

Rangers fans are probably just relieved to hear that the Butland rumours can finally end.

This has been rumbling on for weeks now but Rangers finally have their man and it’s an incredibly important signing.

Long-serving Rangers stopped Allan McGregor is leaving the club this summer and Scotland international Jon McLaughlin may follow.

Rangers needed to bring in a new first-choice stopper, even if Robby McCrorie has done himself no harm in recent weeks.

Butland was clearly the top target and Rangers have pulled off the deal after his Manchester United loan spell ended.

Jack Butland receives messages after completing Rangers move

Butland has taken to Instagram to react having finalised his move to Glasgow.

Butland admitted that he is ‘delighted and honoured’ to have joined Rangers and is counting down the days until his debut.

The former England goalkeeper received messages from a number of players, including Jermain Defoe.

Defoe – who was around Butland in the England setup – told the goalkeeper that he will ‘love it’ at Ibrox and Rangers is a simply ‘special club’.

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes joined in, stating ‘you deserve the best’ after seeing Butland leave Old Trafford.

Former Rangers men Peter Lovenkrands and Charlie Adam congratulated Butland too as he prepares to become the new Ibrox number one.
