Braga warm up for Rangers Europa League tie with impressive Benfica win

Rangers’ Europa League rivals Braga warmed up for their trip to Ibrox with a very impressive 1-0 win away to Portuguese giants Benfica.

It means Braga have risen to 3rd in the Primeira Liga and remain unbeaten in the 10 games since new coach Ruben Amorim took over. They’ve won nine.

Defensive midfielder João Palhinha got the only goal of the match as Braga also ended up with 10 men thanks to a late red card for Raul Michael Melo da Silva.

The result means that Braga have now beaten all of Portugal’s big three, with Amorim guiding the club to two wins over both Sporting Lisbon and Porto since taking charge.

One of those results even led to the talented Portuguese outfit lifting the country’s league cup with a 2-1 win over Rangers’ group stage opponents Porto.

The result against the current Primeira Liga leaders is yet more evidence of the incredible strides Braga have taken since their former assistant coach took over.

Rangers fans were happy enough with the last 32 Europa League draw against Braga given it meant they avoided names like Ajax and Inter Milan.

But the rampant form of the Portuguese club proves that this is going to anything but easy as Rangers welcome them to Ibrox this coming Thursday.

Braga topped their Europa League group, going unbeaten against the likes of Wolves, Besiktas and Slovan Bratislava.
