Rangers star Borna Barisic has been discussing his Ibrox future as the Croatian international prepares to enter the final year of his contract.

The left-back is now 31 and has enjoyed up-and-down time at Ibrox ever since joining the club from Croatian side NK Osijek back in Steven Gerrard’s first season.

Now in his fifth campaign at Ibrox, Borna Barisic is potentially set to be one of a number of players whose futures will be considered as Michael Beale is tasked with revamping the squad.

“In the summer, I enter the last year of my contract. I have a top relationship with everyone at Rangers,” said Barisic.

“If I went to another club, I would choose the one that was just like Rangers.

“But you never know what could happen, the situation could change in a day.”

Rangers star Borna Barisic faces big Ibrox decision

The thing with Borna Barisic is that there is undoubtedly a talented footballer in there with a wicked cross and a fine left foot.

But there is a distinct lack of consistency in his delivery whilst there remains major doubts over his defensive abilities against direct wingers and his mentality at the top level.

Rangers also invested heavily at left-back in the summer, signing Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz in a deal which could reportedly reach £5m.

After a disappointing and injury-plagued first season in Scotland, with that sort of outlay the former Bestikas star will be expected to break into the Ibrox side.

It means that Borna Barisic is at something of a crossroads in his Rangers career and the next few months could be defining for him going forward.

If the left-back can once again make the berth his own then he will be stating his case to continue into next season but if he does so Rangers will likely need to begin negotiations over a new deal.

The following window represents the last time the club can get a return on the player and let’s see what decisions are made between Michel Beale and Ross Wilson in the coming weeks.
