Borna Barisic and Gareth McAuley may miss Rangers vs Celtic

Steven Gerrard could be without two international defenders for Sunday’s trip to Celtic Park.
Borna Barisic was forced off in the first half of Croatia’s defeat to Hungary on Sunday.
He looked to sustain a muscle injury, which throws his availability into question.

Gareth McAuley, was reportedly fit and training with Northern Ireland before their second Qualifying fixture against Belarus.
However, when being left out of the starting XI means he can’t be match fit. His last senior appearance came two months ago, away at Cowdenbeath.

Can Rangers cope without them?

Injury has been the one near constant feature of Barisic’s debut season with Rangers. This one was particularly badly timed, though.
After his first international goal for Croatia at the weekend, confidence would have been sky high.
However, all is not lost. Andy Halliday started at left-back during December’s Old Firm and deservedly won the man of the match award. He now looks a near certainty to start.

McAuley has been similarly plagued by injury problems since he arrived at Ibrox. Therefore, Gerrard will be used to not being able to call upon him.
He could be fit enough for the matchday squad if required, but it’s between Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, and Joe Worrall to fight it out for the starting berths.
