Bongani Zungu replied to a Rangers fan on Twitter after starring in a 2-0 AFCON qualifying win for South Africa over São Tomé e Príncipe on Friday.

Zungu signed for the club on an initial loan deal from Amiens on deadline day and after a long wait, he finally made his debut last weekend, impressing in the 8-0 hammering of Hamilton.

There was no time for the midfielder to rest on his laurels, though, due to his international call-up.

The 28-year-old quickly embarked on the lengthy journey to South Africa, arriving on Tuesday ahead of a qualifying double-header against minnows, São Tomé.

Bafana Bafana made hard work of the first of the two games, only triumphing 2-0 against a side ranked 110 places below them in the FIFA World Rankings.

Zungu impressed after being introduced as a substitute in the 66th minute, though, scoring the second goal with a header from a corner and showing off his considerable passing range in open play.

After the game, he was praised on social media and he responded to a Gers fan’s tweet containing footage from the match, in which he takes out a number of opposition players with a sublime lofted through ball.

The player who latched onto the pass, Percy Tau, was flagged offside, but that didn’t stop supporters from being impressed.

@Pena_Cartel tweeted “Zungu doing bits. That’s the type of pass you love to see.”

Zungu responded with the smiling face with sunglasses emoji and when the fan sourced an HD version of the gif, he retweeted that too.

The Gers summer signing was also very active on Instagram following the match, sharing praise he’d received and even running a poll asking whether or not the aforementioned offside should have been given.

South Africa remain second in AFCON qualifying Group C, behind Ghana, and are back in action on Monday against the same opposition.
