On Wednesday afternoon, Sportsbladet reported that Rangers are close to securing the signature of Filip Helander.
The story has gathered momentum since then, as various British-based outlets pick up details of the seemingly imminent deal.
Interestingly, according to Goal, Helander is turning down the option to move to another top-flight European league in order to move to Glasgow.
It’s claimed the 6ft 4″ centre-back has an offer from Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir. Furthermore, Besiktas are said to be ‘closely monitoring’ the situation.
It would be a major coup for Rangers if they were to win out over the latter. Besiktas reached the Round of 16 in the Champions League as recently as 2017. However, after a third-place league finish last season [Soccerway] will be competing in the Europa League this time around.

Riccardo Bigon, Sporting Director of Helander’s current club, Bologna, has confirmed talks are ongoing.
“Yes, we are talking right now about this possible transfer,” he said, as
quoted by the Daily Record. “I can’t tell you any more than that because the discussions are not yet complete. But we hope to have an agreement very soon.”
Given that Helander is a Swedish international centre-back, it would be a coup if the club could finalise this move.
However, it would spell trouble for a current Ibrox favourite.
