Bluenose midfielder Kenny McLean has been left “absolutely devastated” after the boyhood Rangers fan was ruled out of Euro 2020 through injury.
Routinely linked to Ibrox, McLean, 29, was most recently mentioned last November as the Sun claimed the Gers were eyeing up a move for the midfielder in the winter window.
However, despite celebrating the achievement of promotion with the Canaries, McLean has suffered a knee injury which will rule him out of the European Championships this summer.
The ex-St Mirren and Aberdeen star has been an important squad player for Steve Clarke and this news will represent a sizable blow to the player.
McLean was subbed off in the 52nd minute of the Championship winners’ final game of the season against Barnsley and was snapped in crutches after the 2-2 draw.
Norwich would then take to their official website to confirm that McLean had suffered a knee ligament that will keep him out for 12 weeks and thus Euro 2020 this summer.
McLean himself was considerably gutted by the news and took to Twitter to voice his frustrations.
Rangers fans will be gutted to see one of the club’s own miss out on such an historic occasion as Scotland play at a major finals for the first time in 22/23 years.
With squads also set to be expanded for the tournament, Rangers will also be hoping a top Ibrox prospect makes the squad after another Ger was ruled out of the tournament.
