Neil Warnock will never get to achieve his Rangers dream after officially retiring from the beautiful game.
One of British football’s most-loved and revered characters and coaches, the Englishman has finally hung up his tracksuit last week after almost 60 years in professional football as a player and coach.

A former winger, the now 73-year-old spent his playing days in the English Football League turning out for the likes of Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and Barnsley.
But it’s as a manager Neil Warnock will be most recognisable to Rangers fans, with the coach having over 40 years experience guiding sides south of the border.
This includes the likes of Middlesbrough, QPR, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United – his eight-year stint with the Blades his longest in management – with Neil Warnock managing 1063 matches across 16 clubs in total.
But did you know that the former coach had a soft spot for Rangers and previously admitted that one day he’d love to manage the Ibrox club?
Speaking on Sky Sports News in February 2020, Neil Warnock said:
“I like Rangers.
“I’m a Rangers guy really, so the Celtics and all that lot *shakes head*.
“I’ve always fancied having a go against Rangers and Celtic.”
Speaking after his retirement, Neil Warnock also revealed that he always wanted to take charge at Rangers and that he had applications at two Scottish clubs turned down.
The coach also revealed he could’ve gone to Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday in his career.
“I should’ve gone to Sunderland,” Neil Warnock told TalkSPORT.
“Sheffield Wednesday was another, I nearly went there.
“And Bristol City were a club I always respected.
“Rangers as well – I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland.

“I applied to Aberdeen and I didn’t even get a reply.
“Hearts was another – and they gave it to a Lithuanian. So that wasn’t much of a compliment to me, was it?
“I thought, ‘Bloody hell, if I can’t beat a Lithuanian, what chance have I got?’”
Meanwhile, one Rangers star could play for Man City or Liverpool, claims a current EFL manager.
