St Mirren have confirmed a significant boost for Rangers ahead of a Premiership fixture between the two clubs in Paisley later this month.

The Buddies are giving the Gers two stands for the clash that’s due to kick off at 12pm on Sunday 24 October.

The Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand and the North stand – the stands behind each of the goals – are the areas that have been given up.

Such a sizeable away allocation guarantees that Steven Gerrard’s Gers will have a massive backing at the SMISA Stadium, which should make an often tricky away trip feel somewhat more comfortable for the players.

The decision means that some St Mirren season ticket holders will have to be moved from their regular seats.

“I share the strength of feeling on this issue and have discussed options with my fellow Directors which would avoid the need for any of our fans to move from their seats for matches in future,” said St Mirren Chair of the Board, John Needham [Stmirren.com].

“The major hurdle is replacing the income generated which is in the region of £120K for the three guaranteed fixtures each season.

“However, my initial thinking has been well received and I am working on refining the proposals before consulting you, the fans, on whether you would support my idea.”

Despite Needham’s reassurance that alternative arrangements will be made for future home fixtures against the Old Firm, plenty of St Mirren fans haven’t taken the news well.
