Big changes have reportedly been made to the European Super League (ESL), opening the competition up to many more clubs, including Rangers.
The initial ESL announcement was criticised around the globe and the majority of the clubs due to be involved subsequently pulled out, with fan pressure a major factor.
However, German outlet Wirtschafts Woche reports that the project is still ‘alive’, following some fundamental changes.
It’s claimed that there will be no permanent clubs, with 20 participants instead qualifying based on their domestic performances.
Crucially, the competition won’t be exclusively for clubs from the traditionally bigger leagues.
Teams from all over Europe will be in with a chance of qualifying and for those who come close, there will be a second tier – also comprised of 20 teams.
A fan-centric approach is also set to be adopted, with the ESL subsiding travel for supporters.

The first attempt to launch the ESL was a spectacular failure, but these reported changes to the competition are likely to make it much more appealing to clubs and football fans in general.
With Rangers striving for a period of domestic dominance following their historic 55th top-flight Scottish title last season, they’ll no doubt be intrigued by this development.
Clearly, more details are required, but suddenly, a project that looked to have been swiftly destroyed appears to be very much back on the cards.
