Rangers linked Heidenheim midfielder Niklas Dorsch is reportedly set for a €3.5m move to Belgian club KAA Gent, according to reports on the continent.

Voetbulnieuws claims via Sky Sports Germany that the Belgian side are “close” to signing the 22-year old midfielder.

In fact they believe that Dorsch is “well on his way to East Flanders”. Reputable German newspaper Bild also claims talks are said to be “well-advanced”.

The reported transfer comes after Dorsch’s current Heidenheim side fell to an away goals 2-2 playoff defeat to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga playoffs.

Rangers were linked to the player in the German press [InFranken] as Steven Gerrard looks to strengthen his side ahead of the new season.

Dorsch has been capped all the way up to U21 level in Germany and remains a player of decent standing in that part of Europe.

Should any move come to fruition – and if Rangers interest was genuine – it could be the second player the Ibrox side have missed out on to a Belgian club.

Cameroon midfielder Frank Boya claims he turned down interest from Rangers to move to Antwerp after his contract with Royal Mouscron expired.

Rangers are also being strongly linked to moves for South African international and Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu as they look to bolster their squad in the middle of the park.

Rapid Vienna midfielder Dejan Ljubicic is another being linked to Rangers with reports claiming it’ll take £2m to sign him from the Austrian side.
