Bears in stitches as Celtic AGM dominated by questions on Rangers

This year’s Rangers AGM was unsurprisingly dominated by big Rangers news, not Celtic, with chairman Dave King announcing his intention to step down as the head of the Ibrox club.

The news was met with an emotional outpouring by the Ibrox club’s fans [Rangers], with many viewing King as the saviour of the Glasgow club in their time of need.

But similarly, Celtic’s AGM appears to have been filled with discussions on the same topic; Rangers.

Celtic shareholders have been discussing their own plans and ambitions for the future and true to form there were questions on The Rangers aplenty.

One shareholder requisition calls for “licensing processes of the Scottish Football Association” to be referred to the police, presumably over the award of a European license to Rangers in 2011 [Daily Record live blog 27/11/19 12:26].

There was an admittance that Celtic are better focusing on Celtic. Good luck.

Then there was the loving Peter Lawwell’s subtle nod to the Ibrox club [Daily Record] when discussing his own side’s misgivings.

“When you see certain banners and hear certain songs my heart sinks,” said Lawwell.

“It allows our enemies to put us in with our rivals. We are not the same, we are different.”

Yes, you did read that correctly. They’ve managed to shoehorn Rangers into their own implosion over the unruly Green Brigade.

Lawwell also produced the dilemma to beat all dilemmas for Celtic fans when he suggested the club would need to let Rangers win the league for four years to reach a Champions League semi-final [Daily Record live blog 27/11/19 12:21].

Good to see he’s not lost any sense of humour.

And neither have Rangers fans, who’ve taken to Twitter to comment on the Rangers-centric Celtic AGM.

Celtic and Rangers are preparing to lock horns twice in December, with the Betfred Cup Final preceding the Scottish Premiership tie just before New Year.

Let’s hope it’s all about the Rangers then too!
