Rangers have sacked manager Michael Beale and it’s hard not to feel that the struggles of Cyriel Dessers paved the way for his exit.
The Gers have decided to part ways with boss Michael Beale after a disappointing start to the season.
Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen leaves Rangers seven points behind Celtic with juts seven games played.
Add in the Champions League play-off defeat to PSV Eindhoven and Beale just hasn’t met the standards required.
The inquest into Beale’s Ibrox stint is well underway with his summer signings ultimately coming under the microscope.
Cyriel Dessers summed up Rangers transfer struggles
Beale decided to overhaul his striking options with Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak moving on.
In came Danilo and Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers with Beale looking towards two former Feyenoord strikers to take Rangers forward.
Beale gave the move the big sell; he told the Rangers official website that Dessers was an ‘excellent’ signing and perfectly suited a ‘very specific profile’ Rangers were seeking.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Rangers paid £4.3million rising to £5.6million for Dessers, a considerable price for a 28-year-old.
We highlighted at the time that Dessers was being brought in for an immediate impact.
This wasn’t about the future; there was little resale value in signing Dessers and Beale needed his new striker to hit the ground running.
The move has become something of a nightmare though as Dessers is yet to convince Rangers fans.

Three goals and three assists in 13 games may not look terrible but it’s just not enough when Rangers paid that kind of money.
Beale has been sticking by Dessers but a dreadful miss in the opening minutes against Aberdeen summed it up.
Beale needed his big signing to be in the goals immediately; why else would Rangers sanction spending that kind of money on a player with little hope of profit down the line?
Instead, Dessers is misfiring and looking like a multimillion-pound blunder as things stand.
There is time for Dessers to turn it around; he has scored goals pretty much everywhere he has been and he could thrive under a new manager.
This deal was enormous for Beale though and Dessers failing to hit the ground running certainly contributed to Rangers’ struggles and, eventually, the decision to make a managerial change.
