Beale hoping for third time lucky with nemesis set for Rangers return

Rangers have to deal with Servette in the Champions League first but a repeat of last season’s play-off with PSV Eindhoven could be an interesting one with Peter Bosz a familiar face.

The 59-year old was reportedly a target to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager, however, he could now be returning to Ibrox with a third different club.

Rangers don’t have a great record against Peter Bosz and Michael Beale will be hoping that it is third time lucky.

In two previous visits with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon, the PSV boss has a record that sits at two wins out of two with an aggregate scoreline of 5-1 in his favour.

Over the four games, he has three wins and one draw – the draw coming against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers.

Bosz might not have a hugely impressive trophy cabinet but his approach to the game makes his sides a dangerous proposition, especially in European and knockout football.

Under Steven Gerrard, with Michael Beale as number two, Rangers never had an answer against Peter Bosz and didn’t look like winning any of the three games.

There will be space for Rangers to play their own football in but the current Gers boss struggled during pre-season and the opening day shambles against Kilmarnock did little to inspire.

Beale was given the nod because he knows the club and the expectations, he also came with the promise of attacking football.

Rangers targeted Peter Bosz because he has a track record of delivering it and it’s time for Michael Beale to prove that he can do the same.
