Ahead of their trip to Rangers, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah says he’s ‘convinced’ that teammate, Kai Havertz, could become one of the best players in the world, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

20-year-old Havertz is rated at £81 million by Transfermarkt and is a full Germany international.

Remarkably, despite his age, he’s already racked up over 100 league appearances for Bayer, playing a big part in the side for the last four seasons.

There’s certainly plenty of hype surrounding the attacking midfielder, but Tah doesn’t believe it’s misplaced.

“Havertz is an amazing player and also an amazing person,” he said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“That’s why I think he’s going to make it to the top of the world if he keeps on working hard and staying how he is.

“I think he can go to the very top. I’m convinced he can do that.”

Verdict

Havertz is Bayer’s star attraction and one of three dangermen we picked out following last week’s Europa League Last 16 draw.

His tallies of five goals and four assists from 21 Bundesliga appearances this season may not necessarily read like those of a world-leading talent, but he showed what he is about in the Round of 32 against Porto.

After netting a penalty in the first leg, he scored again and registered two assists during the second meeting in Portugal, ensuring he had played a key part in four of his side’s five goals across the tie.

There’s no doubt he’ll take some stopping for a Gers defence that has struggled regularly since the winter break.

However, European football appears to bring the best out of Steven Gerrard’s group and the likes of Feyenoord, Porto, Legia Warsaw and Braga have all be handed defeats at Ibrox already this season.
