Bayer Leverkusen have issued a training update to their fans via Twitter as uncertainty remains over if and when they’ll face Rangers in the Europa League.
The two clubs met for the first leg of their Last 16 tie at Ibrox on Thursday night, with the German club emerging 3-1 winners.
They looked a classy outfit but didn’t completely blow Rangers away, with a little help from VAR and some sloppy late defending from the hosts helping them along to victory.
Since then, a great deal has taken place as the majority of European football goes into lockdown in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Both the Scottish Premiership and the Bundesliga have been suspended, while UEFA also made the call to postpone all Champions and Europa League fixtures scheduled for next week.
That verdict means there’s uncertainty over when Leverkusen will be able to host the Gers for the return leg.
A range of scenarios have been presented in reports, with the Mirror claiming the governing body’s intention will be to play the fixture as soon as possible, while the Daily Record has suggested that UK teams might not play again until August.
More will likely be known after a UEFA videoconference scheduled for Tuesday, but it seems that Leverkusen plan to train next week come what may.
They issued an update to their supporters on Saturday afternoon outlining their proposed schedule.
They’re using the opportunity to give their players a well-earned rest, but clearly, manager, Peter Bosz, wants things to continue ticking over in case fixtures are resumed sooner rather than many expect.
‘The Werkself’ currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga and remain heavy favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League should the competition recommence, as they carry a two-goal advantage to a venue where they have won their last eight matches in all competitions.
