Barry Ferguson’s managerial career looks set to be back on track as he gets ready to take the Kelty Hearts job, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Lowland League outfit are looking for a new manager after Thomas Courts left the club recently. The drop to the Lowland League will hopefully be temporary for the former Rangers captain. Kelty sit top of the division and are want promotion to the Scottish League Two this season.

The news comes just days after Ferguson was seen lambasting the SFA at a Rangers legends event in Bothwell. Ferguson has certainly kept himself busy during his time out of football. Doing work as a newspaper columnist and media pundit, the former Ranger appears ready to step back into the footballing world properly.

Talks will continue today as the deal closes in on completion.  The move will certainly be interesting for all Rangers fans as they look to see how their hero gets on in his new job.

A point to prove

Ferguson is of course out of managerial work since resigning as Clyde manager back in February 2007. His time in League Two couldn’t be considered as a successful one, with the Gers legend leaving after missing out on the playoffs. Clyde sat in eighth place when Ferguson left the club.

His stint at Clyde followed a short spell as caretaker manager at Blackpool. That was another time to forget for Ferguson, but he can’t be blamed for his time in England when you take into account the issues the club were facing.

Another shot in the management game awaits Ferguson. Kelty are a solid club in the Lowland League, and certainly have high ambitions. Ferguson has yet to experience a bit of luck in football management, therefore he’ll be hoping Kelty can provide it.

The former Ibrox title-winner will still have ambitions of managing the Gers one day. Whether he can take steps towards making that a reality, however, will rest strongly on his success at Kelty.
