Barry Ferguson and Kelty Hearts aren’t subjects you often see together, but they may very well be soon.
The Rangers legend looks set to be offered the management gig at the Lowland League outfit in the coming days. It appears that Kelty have earmarked Ferguson as their main target as he mulls over an offer.

We spoke yesterday on the offer for Ferguson, and he’s opened up on it in today’s Daily Record. Speaking about the potential move to potential non-league football, Ferguson seemed optimistic.
“This has come out of the blue so there’s a lot to consider before I make my mind up. I’ve been impressed by the club’s ambition and desire to make it into the SPFL. For that reason it’s an interesting proposition that’s worthy of my time and consideration.”
A career in need of a rebuild
It’s fair to say that this isn’t how Ferguson would’ve imagined his managerial career going. A couple of unsuccessful spells at both Blackpool and Clyde under difficult circumstances has given him an unfair reputation.
Taking up the role at Kelty may not look like the most attractive role on paper. But it’s a great chance for Ferguson to start rebuilding his managerial reputation once more.

The club have high ambitions of getting themselves promoted to the SPFL this season. That would, of course, have to be done through the playoffs. As it stands, Kelty are currently level with East Kilbride at the top of the Lowland League. City, however, have a game in hand.
You also have to credit Ferguson for still having an appetite to go back into management. So far it hasn’t worked out due to not having a fair crack at the whip, and there appears to be real humility in the Rangers legend considering the level he’s happy to drop down to.
Rangers fans should keep an eye on Ferguson’s development closely. He clearly would love to potentially manage Rangers one day. With the way the football world works, however, he’s now miles away from that. But in the end, you never know.
