Rangers will need to quickly climb down from the high of reaching the Europa League Quarter Finals with a trip to Celtic Park looming large.

Rangers were heroic against Fenerbahce to secure a famous penalty kicks victory over Jose Mourinho and the Turkish giants in the Europa League.

But back on Scottish Premiership duties the Rangers team have some making up to do with the Ibrox support after a disastrous domestic season.

Celtic go into the third league Old Firm of the season 16 points clear with a record-equalling 55th title in their sights.

Barry Ferguson has been speaking ahead of the trip to Glasgow’s east-end and refused to go into details surrounding the current state of the Rangers squad.

‘No major issues’ after Rangers Fenerbahce marathon

Rangers had to go the distance against Fenerbahce with a 120 minute high-intensity Europa League tie not exactly perfect preparation for a trip to Celtic Park.

But the Rangers manager confirmed there are ‘no major issues’ following the exhausting clash at Ibrox with Ferguson to assess his team after the final training session ahead of the Old Firm clash.

“I’ll find out in tomorrow’s session, but in terms of us going 120 minutes, I’m not going to go into Sunday and use that as an excuse,” Ferguson told the media.

”They’re well looked after here in terms of sports science guys and the masseurs and the food they get and the supplements they get.

“There’s one or two, obviously, as you’ve seen as I took off, had minor issues. There are no major issues. I just need to see how they are after the session today.”

Rangers have a couple of injury concerns in the squad with Colombian winger Oscar Cortes playing for the B team in the week as he works his way back to full fitness.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo was back at Ibrox to watch his loan teammates against Fenerbahce but the Dutch youth international is still out with a knee injury sustained in November.

Brazilian striker Danilo was visibly frustrated after being pulled back from being substituted on against Fenerbahce with the ex-Feyenoord forward hamstrung by injury issues.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor a doubt for Rangers clash

Old Firm rivals Celtic don’t have their own injury issues to seek with influential captain Callum McGregor hoping to overcome a calf issue to play against Rangers.

The Parkhead skipper was on media duties ahead of the Old Firm derby and revealed he is facing a race against time to be fit for the clash after missing Friday’s training session.

Beyond that, the Parkhead side could be without veteran winger James Forrest due to a foot injury sustained against Rangers in December.

Portuguese midfielder Paolo Bernardo is also expected to miss the game with the Ibrox side.
