Barry Ferguson vs the SFA is the title of a story that has many chapters to it. Finally, it appears the Rangers legend has just decided to say what he feels on the organisation.
The SFA have been in the news over the last week for their treatment of Paul Gascoigne. The decision to nominate him for Scottish Football’s Hall of Fame before taking it away was questionable to say the least. Many have their thoughts on whether Gazza should’ve been given the nomination, but the SFA’s treatment of the situation was typical of them.
According to the Scottish Sun, Ferguson decided to rip into Scottish football’s governing body at a legend’s bash. An event was being held at the Bothwell Ridge Hotel on Friday night. Ian Durrant, Lee McCulloch, and Ferguon all took turns to discuss their Ibrox glory days.
In what seems to be of totally random fashion, Ferguson apparently took the mic from McCulloch and said the following:
“Can I just say one thing? F*** the SFA! I tell you one thing, they never helped us. I hate they b***ards!”

It’s no doubt a segment of the night that provided a few laughs, and Ferguson’s history with the SFA is lengthy on a personal level.
After the infamous boozegate scandal involving Feruson and Allan McGregor, both were dropped for Scotland’s home match against Iceland. From the stands, the Rangers midfielder held up a V sign whilst watching the game. This was directed towards the SFA.
But Ferguson’s main ire seems to be directed towards the handling of their UEFA Cup run of 2008. As Rangers’ incredible run to the UEFA Cup final reached its climax, Rangers subsequently had to play five games in 11 days. It’s largely accepted that the scheduling chaos by the SFA that year played a part in the Gers not winning the title in 2008.
Therefore, it now appears that Ferguson has decided to vent his frustration that’s been built up over the years.
