Rangers and the club’s fans have always prided themselves on being the most successful club in world football but how many trophies have the Ibrox side actually won?
The Gers are recognised as Guinness World Record holders for having the most domestic championships in football, the Gers’ 55 titles unmatched anywhere on the planet.

But there has been some conjecture in recent seasons regarding Rangers’ status as the planet’s most successful team over the piece with many rivals attributing the success to Al-Ahly of Egypt.
First things first, how many trophies have Rangers won in their famously illustrious history? Here’s the LIST.
Officially, Rangers have now won 116 major trophies – including the most recent Scottish Premiership win.
This includes 55 league championships, 33 Scottish Cups, 27 League Cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.
However, this does not tell the full and unbridled history of Rangers and the club’s relationship with securing silverware.
Rangers also hold seven domestic championships from during the “war years” – 1939-1946 – which aren’t counted in the official trophy list.
This is a bone of contention for supporters, especially considering Old Firm rivals Celtic count their league championships which were won during the first world war (1914, 15, 16 and 17).

Beyond that, Rangers boast 83 other trophies which had greater prominence in the history of Scotland but were regional awards rather than national ones.
These include the likes of the Southern League Cup (four times), the Glasgow Cup (44 times winners) and the Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup (32 times).
This is not including a range of minor or friendly cup or lower league trophies which are not counted on any list, official or unofficial.
So whilst Rangers officially boast 116 trophies, for many that figure is considerably higher. Including war titles, it’s 123, including regional trophies, it’s 206.
Al-Ahly are certainly one of the planet’s most successful clubs but how many trophies have the Egyptians won in their history?
Well domestically they include a range of honours at a level which are not included in Rangers’ list and it is difficult to break down what should be considered official awards and what shouldn’t. Here’s their LIST.

Including Egyptian Premier Leagues (42), the Egypt Cup (37) and the Super Cup (11) the club have won 90 domestic trophies.
It is contentious as to whether the Super Cup – essentially the charity shield of Egypt – should be included.
There are also a range of minor and regional trophies which make up another 24 honours. These include the Sultan Hussein Cup, the Cairo League and the one-off Egyptian Confederation Cup.
The club has also won 20 continental or confederation honours including 9 CAF Champions League gongs – a record on the continent.

Al-Ahly also has five “worldwide” gongs however these are caveated by being regional awards largely involving Arab nations.
Even including these awards – something which is rather dubious – the club has an impressive haul of 115 trophies, a number which has been pipped by Rangers this season.
But that final total includes 11 Egyptian Super Cups and 5 regional worldwide trophies, so it would easily be 99 major honours.
If we’re going to be including all trophies regional or otherwise, there is only one clear winner.
Al-Ahly have picked up 139 trophies, Rangers have 206.

Are the Ibrox club the most successful in world football? Unless anyone can beat the official total, or the unofficial one, then yes, it appears they most certainly are – but only just.
Here’s a list of Rangers’ all-time greatest goalscorers, men without whom this remarkable haul of trophies could never have happened.
