Rangers’ South African midfielder Bongani Zungu was snapped in first-team training as reports claim he could return to the Rangers starting XI build ahead of the trip to Falkirk.

Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard had previously ruled the Bafana Bafana international out for a week to ten days [RangersTV] as he looked ahead to the eventual 2-2 Europa League draw with Benfica.

However assistant boss Gary McAllister revealed on Friday that the player is back in training ahead of schedule and will be involved in the match if fit.

“Zungu is going to train today,” said the assistant manager [RangersTV].

“So, barring any disasters and he comes through the training, he’ll certainly be involved at the weekend.”

This will come as very good news to a Rangers support who’ve been limited to only one sighting of the Amiens loanee since he joined on a deadline day loan move in early October.

The midfielder will need to impress if Rangers are to stump up the reported £2.7m permanent fee it’ll cost to take him from the Ligue 2 side [Daily Record].

Zungu, 28, caught the eye of Rangers fans as he played 45 minutes of the resounding 8-0 victory over Hamilton earlier in the month.

But the player has yet to make the starting XI following drawn out negotiations and a two-week quarantine after arriving from France.

Zungu’s move to Rangers would also prove the catalyst for a recall to the South Africa squad where the midfielder impressed over two matches with Sao Tome.

But after returning from national team duty with an injury Zungu missed the matches against Aberdeen and Benfica.

Now, the sounds coming out of Ibrox would suggest that the midfielder is in-line for an appearance against Falkirk.

Could the Rangers fans’ wait to Bongani Zungu in a starting XI finally be about to come to an end this weekend?
