At this point, it’s difficult to envisage Rangers going even a few months without the suggestion Martin Skrtel is moving to Ibrox.
The Slovak international is regularly linked to Rangers, and now a Turkish journalist is claiming that Rangers are “meeting” with the Slovakian defender.
But on first glance, these links are outrageous when you consider how well-stocked the Ibrox club is at centre back.
Zeki Uzundurukan is the editor at Turkish newspaper Fotomac, so you could argue that there are legs in this.
The journalist will, after all, have connections with the likes of Fenerbahce where Skrtel most recently played his football before his contract expired this summer.
Skrtel himself has claimed he previously met with Rangers [Daily Record] with a view to a move, but this was before the Gers secured the signing of Filip Helander.
The £3m arrival [RangersTV] of the Swedish international bulks up what is a very strong position for Rangers.
The club also has Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson as centre-back options.
The notion that Steven Gerrard would then depose one of these players in what is an incredibly competitive position for Rangers with a 34-year-old Martin Skrtel appears far-fetched.

On paper at least, Rangers don’t need him, especially on the gargantuan wages the former Liverpool centre-half would demand.
But perhaps Steven Gerrard wants more experience across his backline this season.
That would suggest the Rangers boss is looking shift one of the club’s four centre-backs on in the summer window.
Considering Connor Goldson is the club’s defensive marshal and George Edmundson & Filip Helander are new signings, that leaves Nikola Katic.

Could you really see the Rangers cult hero leaving the club this season to make way for an ageing Martin Skrtel?
One thing’s for sure, that’d be a very hard sell to supporters.
