Antwerp send message to Rangers on Twitter ahead of Europa League clash

Royal Antwerp have sent a message to Rangers on Twitter ahead of the Europa League Round of 32 first-leg clash between the two sides at the Bosuilstadion on Thursday night.

The last few days have been dominated by controversy surrounding Covid breaches, but Steven Gerrard insists the squad is focused on the upcoming fixture.

Rangers left for Belgium on Wednesday afternoon, with the likes of Steven Davis, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all spotted at Glasgow Airport ahead of their flight [Sky Sports Scotland Twitter].

Their opponents had already issued a welcome message via Twitter hours earlier, though.

“Welcome to Antwerp @RangersFC,” tweeted the Belgian club, alongside a 30-second video.

The video featured clips of the team in action and of fans in the stands at their home ground, before switching to examples of the club’s work in the local area.

“We are Antwerp – Belgium’s oldest football club,” reads the text. “Our City. Our Community. Our way of life.”

The Bosuilstadion hasn’t proven to be an overly difficult place to go for other Belgian Pro League teams this season, with Antwerp dropping points there on six occasions.

However, they have done well at home in Europe, defeating both Tottenham and Ludogorets and only conceding twice across their three group stage matches at the venue.

Having taken seven points from a possible nine on the road in Group D, though, Rangers will be confident that they can come away with a victory.
