Rangers star Antonio Colak has now explained his personal ‘hope’ for the Ibrox natives’ trip to Hibernian. Michael Beale takes the Gers to Easter Road in the Premiership this Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has fallen into a backup role in Glasgow in recent weeks after starting out in scintillating fashion. Colak has only started in one of his past five league appearances having dropped behind Alfredo Morelos. He has also not scored in the top-flight since October 29.

Colak had scored 11 goals through his first 12 Premiership appearances whilst Giovanni van Bronckhorst still stood at the helm. But he is now eight outings without a goal and only made his second start under Beale last Saturday. Morelos fell to the bench at home to Kilmarnock.

Colak repaid Beale’s decision to start him against Kilmarnock by assisting Fashion Sakala for Rangers’ second goal. It was also his first goal involvement in a Premiership game under the Gers coach. While his previous league start also came away at Dundee United on January 7.

Beale recalled Colak to the Rangers line-up at Tannadice Park following the striker’s spell on the sidelines with a minor injury. But he is yet to see the same output from the forward that Van Bronckhorst enjoyed after paying PAOK £2m before add-ons to sign the Croatian in July.

Antonio Colak is taking it game-by-game as he looks to revive his form at Rangers

But Colak is not setting himself any individual targets as he bids to revive his form at Rangers as they visit Hibernian this Wednesday. Instead, the three-cap attacker is taking it game-by-game with the same mindset as for any other fixture: to help the Gers win and try to score.

“To be fair, no,” Colak said, via quotes by the Glasgow Times. “I always look day-by-day and Wednesday is a new game where I can be on the scoresheet.

“So, I have to work hard for that. I hope I can be back but I would never go: ‘Okay, now I score against Hibs so it’s all good’. I just try to play, no matter what game it is, to play with the same thoughts and the will to win and hope to score.”

Van Bronckhorst started Colak as Rangers visited Hibernian last August. The striker did not score in the 2-2 draw but he won the penalty that James Tavernier converted. It broke the deadlock at Easter Road. While his injury stopped Colak from starting at Ibrox in December.
