A leading Colombian football journalist had told Rangers fans to expect “announcements soon” over the transfer of Alfredo Morelos to Ligue 1 side Lille.
Carlos Aleman of WinSportsTV – who have interviewed Morelos regularly during the transfer window – believes that Lille’s interest in the player has been “reactivated”.
Aleman also suggests that Morelos’ absence from the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock is “more than a clue” about the player’s future.
Unidiomatically translated the Colombian journalist’s tweet reads:
“Apparently the negotiation between Rangers and Lille is reactivated for Alfredo Morelos, his absence in the last game is more than a clue. We will have announcements soon.”
Rangers striker Morelos was left out of the club’s Ibrox win at the weekend after weeks of speculation surrounding a move to Ligue 1 Lille.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard claimed the player had had his “head turned” by the speculation and didn’t miss when he called out the striker after the Killie win.
“I only want players who are hungry for the shirt,” said Gerrard.
“If I see people who are not focused or who have taken their eye off the ball and not really, really hungry to get this football club results, I have to make easy decisions and Alfredo made it easy for me this week.”
Rangers are said to have rejected a fourth £16.25m bid for the player [Daily Mail], a ballpark figure seemingly confirmed by Lille president Gerard Lopez on talkSPORT.
Rangers are believed to be holding out for closer to £20m for the Colombian international.
Lopez also refused to rule out a return for the player with the French side reportedly about to recoup £27m (€30m) from Arsenal for defender Gabriel Magalhães [Guardian].
