Andy Halliday slams Rangers as he names his favourite to lift Scottish Premiership title

Andy Halliday believes that Rangers are in the driver’s seat to win the Scottish Premiership title even though Hearts are in first place.

Rangers find themselves four points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table.

Celtic are two points behind the Ibrox outfit, but have a game in hand, making this a three-way fight for the title going into the split.

Andy Halliday expects Rangers to drop points when the pressure is on

Halliday believes that the SPFL title is currently Rangers’ to lose, even though they are chasing Hearts at the top of the table.

However, he has pointed to the history of the club and stated that whenever the pressure seems to be on them, they seem to crumble under it.

In his view, the reason they are in the title race and now the favourites is because nobody gave them a chance at the start of the season when Danny Rohl took over from Russell Martin.

Halliday told Go Radio: “I’ve said I fancy Rangers. I think they’re the favourites for the first time in a long time.

“But how many times what you see with Rangers, when you don’t expect them to win, they win games, they win eight on the trot.

“As soon as you expect them to win and end the season well, they drop points.

“Three draws in a row away from home. Do you know what I mean? I do make Rangers the title favourite, but no result would surprise me. None.”

What can Danny Rohl do to ensure Rangers win the SPFL title?

Rohl knows that the job is not completely done unless he can guide the Ibrox outfit to the league title.

He has done a commendable job thus far, although there have been games in which the Gers should have easily won and they failed to get over the line.

The German needs to select a system that gets the best out of his players and play that one in all games, rather than chopping and changing it based on the opposition.

While certain tweaks can be made, it is important to be assertive from minute one and put the opponents on the back foot.

They cannot be dominating the league leaders and winning 4-2 on one weekend and then finding themselves 2-0 down against the bottom-placed side seven days later.

Hopefully, the two games against Celtic can set the benchmark for the rest of the season.
