Andy Halliday has named his Rangers Mount Rushmore from the current squad ahead of the Old Firm derby with Celtic.

The 33-year-old Motherwell midfielder was speaking on Open Goal ahead of the final Old Firm clash of the season.

Andy Halliday certainly knows a thing or two about Rangers having spent five years at Ibrox earlier in his career.

And the former Ibrox midfielder singled out one of his former teammates as one of the four most important Rangers players this season.

When asked what is Rangers’ current Mount Rushmore, which means their most important four players, Andy Halliday singled out four top performers.

”Diomande, Raskin, Cerny and I’d still go Tav probably,” answered Halliday.

Halliday was then asked if Tavernier, who signed on at Ibrox at the same time as the former Gers midfielder, would be around next season.

“I think he will,” Halliday said. “I think he will. 2015 he signed so that’s ten years.”

Andy Halliday questions Barry Ferguson’s Rangers tactics

Andy Halliday has questioned Barry Ferguson’s Rangers tactics heading into the weekend’s Old Firm clash with Celtic.

Rangers are on a disastrous run of domestic form and have conceded two or more goals in their last eight Scottish Premiership matches.

With Celtic having been crowned Scottish Premiership champions at Dundee United, the Parkhead side head to Ibrox as firm favourites.

Despite agreeing that Ferguson is likely to start with a back five against Celtic at Ibrox, Halliday has questioned whether or not the system has been justified in other matches.

”It’s not a criticism of Barry Ferguson because that’s the only kind of shape that he’s played that works,” Halliday explained.

”But should you be playing a back three away to St Mirren?

”Now again, it’s more the player’s onus but I just don’t agree. You’re still building towards next season.

”I just don’t think the back three in domestic football, except from maybe against Celtic, should be a thing.”
