Ally McCoist has teased ‘breaking news’ out of Rangers today.
Rumours spread like wildfire yesterday that Philippe Clement was set to part company with the club but that chat was later put to bed with the manager remaining in position for now.
However, Rangers do look set to get a new CEO in the shape of former Manchester United chief Patrick Stewart.
And it could be a double appointment with Gers set to land Malcolm Offord as their chairman with a replacement finally found for John Bennett.
McCoist expects Rangers news today
Rangers legend Ally McCoist discussed the situation at the club while appearing on talkSPORT this morning.
Quizzed on the future of Clement, he insists the Belgian will be going nowhere because the club cannot afford to sack him.
But Coisty does expect to hear ‘breaking news’ out of Ibrox today and that will likely mean an announcement on the new chairman, CEO or both.
He told talkSPORT: “It won’t happen [sacking Clement] because the club aren’t in a financial situation to do so. They haven’t got the money to pay people off.
“The uncertainty above him [Philippe Clement] hasn’t helped. Yes, the results haven’t been good enough, I get that totally.
“But I think at this moment in time, I think there’s going to be news breaking later today regarding changes in the board and changes in personnel above him, which is long overdue. This will hopefully add a bit of stability.”
Incoming Rangers CEO Stewart has links to David Moyes
With Patrick Stewart set to be appointed Rangers’ new chief executive, it is interesting to note he has links to an out-of-work former Premier League manager.
David Moyes is one of the names that has been heavily mentioned when people speculate on a potential replacement for the manager if he were to go.
Stewart was general counsel and company secretary at Manchester United between 2006 and 2019 and would have been part of the team to employ Moyes as manager.
It didn’t work out for the Scot at Old Trafford but he had a strong track record at Everton to land him the job and also worked wonders at West Ham in recent years, winning the Conference League.
He is seen as a canny operator in the Premier League and would be a strong option for Rangers should they need a new manager.
