Ally McCoist has opened up on his spell as Rangers manager, during the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, on TalkSPORT.
The 56-year-old was a hero on the pitch across 15 years at Ibrox. He’s still the club’s record goalscorer, netting over 250 times in the league.

However, his time as manager between 2011 and 2014, coincided with the darkest times in the club’s history.
Shortly after taking over from Walter Smith, Rangers hit financial rock bottom.
Despite that, he stayed on as manager and began to guide the Gers back up through the divisions.

“I got the dream job at the nightmare time”, said McCoist on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, on TalkSPORT.
“It was horrendous, it was absolutely horrendous.
“I couldn’t go to training. I was getting called to meetings over at Ibrox when the training was going on.”

He then went on to explain how several employees who had been with the club for decades, lost their jobs while players on much bigger wages were kept on.
“I mean, what’s all that about?”.

This sort of insight from McCoist shows just how bad things got at that time.
Football took a back seat as drastic attempts to cut costs came into effect.
Thankfully, those days are now gone. The club has been stabilised, is back where it belongs and striving for on-field success once more.
