Ally Dawson warns Celtic that Rangers are coming for them this season

Rangers legend Ally Dawson has downplayed the idea of Celtic getting 10 titles-in-a-row.

Instead, the Gers great believes that Steven Gerrard is here to stop eight. That’s the feeling he gets from a manager who hasn’t stopped impressing since he arrived in Glasgow.

Dawson now does a lot of work in the lounges at Ibrox and interacts with fans on a weekly-basis. He believes that confidence is growing around the club and that Rangers have a huge chance to topple Celtic this season.

A good start to the campign has Rangers sitting second and a point ahead of Celtic. Brendan Rodgers’ men have slipped up in the last two rounds of fixtures, and Rangers have taken advantage.

Dawson believes the attitude of the manager means that there’ll be no talk of stopping 10 in a row. Instead, they’re after the crown this year.

Speaking in the Daily Record this morning, the Gers legend said this:

“Everyone is now excited, there’s plenty of talking and enjoyment. The belief is back. Gerrard won’t be making any big noises about winning the title and he won’t be interested in talk about stopping 10-in-a-row.

“He’ll have his eyes on winning this season. Gerrard is just getting started as well. He has only been at the club a few months and has only had one transfer window. He has made terrific start though and Gers will get stronger as well.

“I’ve been working the lounges and talking to the fans these last two seasons and you can feel the change in atmosphere. Last year there were a couple of occasions when they got their hopes up but there was always this fragility in the background. You never knew what to expect. That has completely changed. There is a real buzz in the stands.”

A tinge of excitement

You can just feel the excitement coming off Dawson just like you can for the entire Rangers support. This is a key stage in Rangers’ history, and there’s a positive feel to it for supporters.

Gerrard hasn’t spoken of what his side will do this season. Instead, the Gers boss is just going about his business in a professionl and dignified manner.

Yet you can’t help but be excited by the performances of the Rangers players nowadays. They’re not just beating sides under the new man, they’re destroying them. Just ask Dundee and St Johnstone, who both came to Ibrox and were swatted aside with ease. Last season, it wouldn’t have surprised you if Rangers only picked up three points from those games.

10-in-a-row is massive for the Rangers supporters. When Gerrard came in, stopping that was the priority. It still is to an extent, but the demand is growing along with the quality of performance.

If Rangers don’t win the league this season, supporters will feel a fair bit disappointed. There’s a belief to how Rangers are going about their business, and they’re not interested in waiting for the potential 10-in-a-row season to make a challenge.

Gerrard is clearly in to try and tackle Celtic immediately. If Brendan Rodgers’ men ran away with the league title this season, everyone would’ve been concerned.

At the moment, it looks as though it’s Rangers who have the early initiative. That is more than supporters could’ve asked for.

Dawson’s views now simply echo everyone elses. There’s a confidence not seen at Ibrox for some time sweeping the place. If that one-point lead over Celtic could start to stretch, you just never know.
