Rangers Rapid Vienna was all poised to be a cracker and the first match in European competition proper at Ibrox for almost eight years duly delivered. The Gers ran out 3-1 winners on an iconic night at Ibrox.
Much was said in the run up and plenty more in the aftermath as Rangers topped group G.
With some huge games to come at Ibrox against Spartak Moscow and Villarreal, Rangers are certainly not there yet.
But there’s real hope the Ibrox side can get out of the group and into the knockout stages.
Here’s all of the best reaction to the Rangers Rapid Vienna match in one place.
Rapid captain Stefan Schwab:
“I have to pay tribute to Rangers and their tempo, even late in the game. We just could not keep up with it. It was only a matter of time before Rangers scored, we weren’t allowed to breathe.”
“I was very pleased. I thought we were excellent all over the pitch,”
“That’s the Rangers I want. If we get that consistently we’ll become a team.
“I thought the supporters were incredible. Wow. I’ve been blown away by my players’ performance.
“The level today was well deserving of the Europa League level without a shadow of a doubt.
“If we perform like that in our next two home games we’ll get out of this group.
“That’s the best we’ve played.”
“It was tremendous. During the game the fans were right behind us and pushed us on, and they pushed us on for that goal and Alfredo delivered,”
“There’s always pressure but I was always confident [with the penalty]. I’m just glad it went in the back of the net.
“It was crucial to get the three points at home. I thought it was one of the best performances I’ve seen from the boys.”

“It was brilliant and I thought the full 90 minutes were terrific. We were in their faces, we pressed them at the right times and we were really good on the ball as well.
“Everything was really good and what it should be about. When you have a disappointment, the reaction is the most important thing.
“I don’t think we could have asked for anything better tonight.
“The noise in the last 10 minutes, it is something you love and hope it happens all the time.”
“It was a really strong European performance and another strong home performance,” he said. “That’s been the biggest thing you’ve seen under Steven Gerrard.
“The home performances and results have been a resounding improvement on last year.”
Austrian Newspaper Die Presse.
“At Ibrox Park, the home of the British-Protestant club, Rangers are growing beyond their reach. The pace that Steven Gerrard’s squad showed was remarkable.”
And even Chris Sutton had something nice to say (reluctantly!)
Didn’t hear from you at the weekend Rob… But yes great win for Steven Gerrard and Rangers against Rapid Vienna 👏👏 https://t.co/2ilaH3WIrL
