Rangers have reportedly been handed a major boost in their negotiations over a new contract with Alfredo Morelos as the Colombian rejects a move to Turkey.

The Ibrox firebrand, 26, is out of contract at the end of the season but after a stuttering few campaigns with the Light Blues there is some doubt regarding a new contract at Ibrox.

Experiencing something of a resurgence under Michael Beale, the mood music has changed a little when it comes to Alfredo Morelos with the striker back amongst the goals at Rangers.

But as far as the contract is concerned, Rangers have reportedly been handed a boost this week with Alfredo Morelos rejecting a move to Konyaspor.

The Super Lig side were linked with a move for the Colombian earlier in the week with the Turkish transfer window open later than other European clubs.

But according to Football Insider, Alfredo Morelos has rejected a switch to Turkey and is now open to signing a new contract at Rangers.

Alfredo Morelos open to new Rangers contract

Whilst the report does claim that a new deal would be a “surprise”, it is said that the Rangers striker has not completely ruled out putting pen to paper on a new contract at Ibrox.

Rangers boss Michael Beale has previously discussed the striker’s situation alongside that of Ryan Kent, who is also out of contract come the end of the season.

“Alfredo is playing regularly, he’s enjoying his football and we’re creating a lot of chances,” said Beale.

“I think he could have a few more goals if I am honest.

“But that’s two away at Kilmarnock and two away at Hearts in the last two midweeks. I am over the moon with Alfredo at the moment, he’s no bother to me around the building.

”I think we can play without both, but I love them both.

”At this moment in time, if you’re asking would I prefer Rangers with both boys here, of course I would. Do I feel there’s a future at Rangers without them?

“Yeah, I do. But 100 percent there’s a vibe that they’re not shutting the door on staying. From both of them.”

An Ibrox centurion, Alfredo Morelos has made 255 appearances for Rangers, scoring 121 goals and fans are certainly split over a new contract as things stand.

Meanwhile, Richard Keys has sent Celtic fans into meltdown with a Rangers claim.
