Alfredo Morelos' potential suspension means Rangers need a striker

The Alfredo Morelos suspension, or potential suspension, only goes to stress the importance of a striker-signing this transfer window.
Rangers, as we all know by now, are in the market for another forward. That much we know already, but it’s now more evident than ever just how important it is with a big decision set to be made.
Yes, the SFA Compliance Inspector will have a look at several incidents regarding Morelos from Saturday. In the Old Firm contest against Celtic, the Colombian was involved in several flash-points.
Whether you believe he should’ve been punished for any of them or not, all of them are now under review. These involve clashes with Celtic’s Scott Brown, Anthony Ralston, and Ryan Christie respectively.

It’s difficult to know just whether he’ll get a ban or not. The SFA seem to make shiny new rules up as they go along when it comes to retrospective action. He could be out for no games, or he could miss three.
Regardless, Rangers desperately need to tool up before that. Another run for Kyle Lafferty going forward isn’t a disaster, but it’s nothing to be confident about either. The big Northern Irishman has just four goals to his name this season since signing from Hearts in the summer.

Rangers are now absolutely flying

The club, however, are now flying after defeating Old Firm rivals Celtic. They bossed Brendan Rodgers’s side around for 90 minutes, and fully deserved their victory on the day.
It’s now imperative that they make the most of it. Making a few big-money signings would be a critical step forward for them, and none would be more important than a new forward.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Steven Davis is about to sign up at Ibrox. That’s a fantastic start to the January business.
A forward, however, is becoming more and more important. Rangers can’t afford to come out of the window without some extra firepower. Morelos’ potential suspension only makes this all the more vital to Rangers’ title-challenge. And there most certainly is a title-challenge.
For the last couple of weeks, talk has cooled on the striker. With the club having a few days off after the Hoops win, it’s likely to stay that way for now. Speculation and movement from the club, however, simply must pick up on a forward when they return.
