Alfredo Morelos' Old Firm record now means nothing

Alfredo Morelos’ record against Celtic doesn’t bear thinking about for Rangers fans. The truth is, however, that it doesn’t matter whatsoever.
The Colombian fired another blank against Brendan Rodgers’ men on Saturday. But it meant little as Rangers won the match 1-0 at Ibrox.
It’s no surprise that nobody is talking about the fact Morelos failed to score in the game. Ryan Jack (via Scott Brown’s legs) did the trick, and not a word was spoken about the fact it was another blank for Rangers’ main striker on derby-day.
And that’s quite right too.

During Rangers’ famine over Celtic – a stint that’s lasted over six years in terms of league football – a lot of side-issues have been brought up. Morelos’ lack of goals against his rivals, however, has been the most noteworthy one.
Yet, on many occasions now in this fixture, the Colombian has proven to be a handful. He may not have netted against Celtic, but he’s certainly come close to it. Added to that, he’s been directly involved in goals against Celtic before, but just hasn’t been the one to put the ball in the net.

A goal against Celtic would still relieve Morelos

We all know how football works, of course. Until he does finally net against his rivals, Celtic fans will continue lording it over him. Why not, considering Gers fans were the same regarding the likes of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink before he scored his first and only Old Firm goal. That’s just the nature of the beast.
But both Morelos and Gers fans can be safe in the knowledge that it doesn’t mean a thing.
He consistently bullies Dedryck Boyata around the place, and plays a key part in Rangers’ performances against Celtic.

In the 3-2 game against Celtic back in March, he also played a key role in Daniel Candeias’ goal. On Saturday, he set-up several chances and nearly forced Scott Brown into scoring an own goal.
He’s been in the right position to create a host of chances against Rangers’ rivals. Therefore, his impact in these games isn’t anywhere near questionable.
Of course, when he does net, supporters will certainly rejoice. Until he does, however, it doesn’t exactly matter if the results are positive.
