Alfredo Morelos lauded after Rangers’ win over Hearts at Tynecastle

Alfredo Morelos’ performance against Hearts was certainly memorable for both himself and the Rangers supporters.

Rangers overcame the Jambos for the second time in two meetings this season. The contest ended in a heroic 2-1 win at Tynecastle, sending Rangers to the top of the Premiership table.

The tale of the game was full of aggression between both sets of players and supports. Nobody, however, typified this more than the feisty Morelos, who continuously held play up and got Rangers up the pitch with ease.

He’ll mostly be remembered, however, for his delightful finish for the winning goal. Offside or not, it was a fine touch to dink it over Zdenek Zlamal and turn the game around in Rangers’ favour.

Supporters, therefore, have been roundly praising their star-man on Twitter. Here’s what the fans had to say after the result.

Is he simply the best?

Scotland are blessed with some fine attacking footballers at the moment. Therefore, is Morelos truly the best of the bunch?

If you were to have a look at the stats, you have to say he’s absolutely up there. 17 goals by December is an incredible amount for the Gers forward. Yet, too often when players have a scoring record like that, they don’t do much else. That can’t be said of Rangers’ priceless little Colombian.

On his run of nine goals in his last 11 matches, Morelos has bullied opposition defenders. The likes of Christophe Berra, Dedryck Boyata, and Paul Hanlon have all had hellish times dealing with his hold-up play in the past.

It’s important to remember also that the forward has had to deal with fierce criticism to earn this kind of love from supporters too. At the start of the season after the Shkupi tie in Europa League qualifying, some Rangers fans actually didn’t want him at the club any longer.

Now, however, he’s turning into Rangers’ most prolific striker since Kris Boyd. He’s on his way to breaking records and continues to seriously grow into his starring role at Ibrox.

He’s one of the main factors Rangers now sit top of the league. Can they stay there? So long as Morelos is on form then anything is possible.
