Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has just been called up to the Colombian National Team for the first time.

The charismatic young striker had been capped at youth level but now looks certain to make the breakthrough to the top team. There had been talk of him getting the call up earlier in the month.

The 22-year-old striker has scored 6 goals in 10 games and Steven Gerrard has reiterated his determination to tie the youngster down on an improved deal.

Great news for Alfredo Morelos, and for Rangers

Morelos was the subject of transfer interest earlier in the window. Should he make the breakthrough this time around expect his value to increase.

Of course, having a valuable young internationalist on our books is only every going to be a good thing for Rangers.

However, by getting called up to the squad, it proves to Morelos that he can still make the grade whilst at Rangers. This will go some way to securing the ferocious youngster’s future.

Experience alongside superstars

Colombia have their fair share of footballing talent. Of course, they went out on penalties to England at the World Cup, but they’re still well equipped.

Juan Cuadrado of Juventus is in the squad, as is Radamel Falcao. James Rodriguez misses out on this team but expect to see him in future squads. Carlos Bacca, Davison Sanchez and Santiago Arias are other high-profile inclusions.

Morelos has the chance to improve his game and reputation on the global stage.

It’s a massive deal for Alfredo and great news for Rangers.
