Alfredo Morelos’ homeland has often recognised his feats in recent times, and did so once again yesterday.

The Rangers hero immediately flew out home after the Gers toppled Celtic on Saturday. Despite not scoring in the game, he put in an incredible shift to constantly unsettle Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic.

And it certainly hasn’t been a quiet trip back to Colombia either. Just a day after beating Celtic, Morelos was pulling on the Rangers jersey once again in a match setup in his honour.

The contest was saw a “Friends of Morelos” select side against local club Aquel Atletico Cordoba. The match raked in quite the crowd, before Morelos received a medal from the town mayor as well before taking a photo with his proud parents.

The 20-goal striker has already been recognised for achievements this season when it comes to his homeland. Earlier this term, Morelos was called up to the Colombian national side. He also made his debut against Venezuela.

Alfredo Morelos is a Rangers fans-favourite

Morelos has solidified himself as a Rangers favourite this season. After a year plagued with mixed performances, the Colombian is well on course for a record number of goals this term.

The Gers forward certainly hasn’t forgotten his roots either. He’s consistently taking visits back to his home country during international and club breaks. He certainly comes across as a humble man, even if he has a nasty streak on the pitch.

Ahead of what’s going to be a crucial second-half of the season, it’s vital that Morelos is fully fit before returning to action on January 18th against Cowdenbeath. Steven Gerrard will just be delighted to see that his star-striker didn’t pick up any injuries.

Rangers sit level on points with Celtic, and the 14-hour flight back to Glasgow should have Morelos excited about what the season could bring. Rangers are now genuine title-challengers, and Morelos is going to be a vital figure as the spearhead.
