Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty are arguably Rangers only two front men. You could count Umar Sadiq, but you’re doing frontmen across the footballing world a bit of an injustice.
But whilst the Nigerian has been stuttering, the Colombian and Northern Irishman have struggled to click.
It’s been one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far. We had visions of a McCoist Hateley, Novo Prso little and large combination.
But is it something to do with how we’re set up more than their on-the-pitch relationship?

Duo not clicking at present
Take Wednesday night. We were 1-0 down against 10 men come halftime. Gerrard endeavoured to change it. He went to three in the back – something Rangers fans are beginning to dread – and stuck Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty up front together.
It didn’t work.
For a little and large combination, you’d expect they’d be great together. Lafferty winning the ball, Morelos following up.
But the reality is the two seem confused over their roles. They often got in each other’s way and were just not clicking on the field. Unless I’m mistaken, we’ve yet to win when they’ve both played up front together.

Morelos was invisible against Motherwell when Lafferty scored two, against Celtic both were also poor.
I think it’s a combination of the unproductive 3-5-2 Gerrard plays and because both players are used to leading a line. Both like to go to the ball in the final third and are combative players. It doesn’t help that Kyle Lafferty has been poor since joining and has had numerous off-the-field issues.
Will the combination click this season?
I don’t know, but it’s been disappointing so far.
