talkSPORT host Alan Brazil has relayed how Ally McCoist really felt about Steven Gerrard’s abrupt departure from Rangers.
It’s been almost a week since Gerrard swapped Glasgow for Birmingham, taking the Aston Villa job seemingly without a moment’s hesitation.

The move shocked the Rangers fanbase and has led to major criticism, with comments made in his maiden Villa interview not helping.
Gers legend McCoist hasn’t had much to say on the subject yet, other than that the 41-year-old’s exit left a ‘bad taste’.
However, now Brazil has provided further insight into the ex-striker’s opinion on the matter.
“I did phone McCoist up, but he didn’t speak to me as his voice is gone again shouting ‘penalty’,” said the talkSPORT host [Scottish Sun].
“People laughed at me when I said he could take the Newcastle job, Steven.
“And the way he has left, on a serious note, I listened to Ally carefully, and I could tell Ally was angry the way he left, the way it was done. But he didn’t really want to have a go at Steven.”

McCoist wasn’t present to corroborate Brazil’s claim, but it’s no shock that, just like many others connected with the club, he didn’t approve of the former manager’s exit.
Gerrard had been linked with a number of other Premier League roles during his tenure at Ibrox but few thought it plausible that he would leave Glasgow with no warning in the middle of a season.
The appointment of his replacement is reportedly nearing, though, and a big opportunity beckons for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who McCoist will no doubt get behind after he’s announced.
Here’s what Jim White has had to say on the GvB negotiations.
