Speaking to Expressen, the agent of Sierra Leone striker, Mohamed Buya Turay, has claimed that there’s ‘great’ interest in his client, after he was touted for a switch to Rangers.

Earlier in the week, Buya Turay made a list compiled by the Daily Record of potential Gers targets ahead of the summer window.

Turay, who is contracted to Belgian Pro League side, Sint-Truiden, spent last year on loan in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Djurgardens, netting 15 times in 29 appearances.

The Record suggested he could be a good budget option in the next transfer window, potentially costing only £1m.

His agent has refused to give much away about the player’s future intentions, though.

“I can’t say for sure whether he’ll leave or not,” Numukeh Tunkara told Expressen. “The interest in Buya Turay has been great and there has been a lot of speculation, but right now he belongs to Sint-Truiden and whatever happens this summer, we’ll deal with it then.”

When directly asked about the Rangers speculation, he responded:

“It’s difficult to comment on rumours and speculations. I don’t want to comment. It’s neither good for the club or the player’s career.”

Verdict

It seems Buya Turay’s agent isn’t keen to ramp up the speculation surrounding his client at this stage.

Clearly, there are more important things to be worrying about than transfers right now, and perhaps Tunkara’s responses reflect that.

When the time comes, though, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the Sierra Leone international comes under consideration.

His goalscoring record at Djurgardens was strong, while he’s a good age and is unlikely to cost the earth.

He’s hardly the kind of high-profile player Bears may demand, but unless current stars are sold for big money, it’s unlikely the club will have the funds for marquee signings.

Alfredo Morelos only cost £1m when he arrived from little known HJK Helsinki in 2018, and he’s certainly proved a bargain signing since then.
